PPP-Sittin’ On The Dock

In My Poetry and Prose, PPP Prompts on June 30, 2009 at 7:45 pm

My contribution at Pictures, Poetry & Prose with a precious photo prompt of children’s feet, as they sit on a dock overseeing the water…..

Some day.
Some day, I’ll be big like them.
Some day, I’ll talk about big kid stuff too.

But, do you know what I won’t do?

Some day.
Some day, I won’t be mean like them.
Some day, I won’t ignore the little kid, like they do.

But, do you know what I will do?

Some day.
Some day, I will ask the little kid to play.
Some day, I will laugh and run and just have fun, with the little kid.

Some day.

I Treasure You

Who put the straw in the strawberry….

In Amused, My Photos on June 29, 2009 at 7:20 pm

….bowl? hahaha

Last week, my friend and I went strawberry picking with our kids. I came home and took care of the most of mine but kept enough for one strawberry-rhubarb pie and enough to make some strawberry topping for ice cream. Mmmmm!

After having the topping with ice cream the other night, I walked into the kitchen to find the bowl with the left-overs of topping in it – just like you see above; and out of my mouth came. . . . “Who put the straw, in the strawberry bowl?” Didn’t my guys just look at me with a duh look and start laughing? Yes, they did.

So, here’s a little extra to make you drool {forgive me}.

people will forget what you did,
but people will never forget how you made them feel.

Time to Grow

In mothering, My Boy #1, My Photos on June 29, 2009 at 9:48 am

My oldest son is moving up into the next level of the Youth Group at Church, because he is going to be in the sixth grade next year…he is now officially labeled a pre-teen. I don’t feel that way, necessarily because he’s not eleven until autumn but it’s really close. You can tell, his voice is beginning to sound just a tiny bit different.

Trampoline friends

I am so proud of this kid…not pride as to say “look at what I’ve done – or even look at what I’ve got”. It’s the kind of pride that blesses my heart extremely to see the choices that he makes in every area (well…maybe not homework stuff, but that’s understandable).

Yesterday, the Youth Group held the annual Step Up Day at one of the families pool’s. Sammy wanted to go so badly (mommy didn’t really want to). I have an awful bit about me when it comes to going to social events…in my mind, I just do not want to go….but once I’m in it and there, it works out beautifully. I don’t know what my issue is but this post really isn’t about figuring that out anyway πŸ™‚

Sammy and I went, all by ourselves…just he and I. It was wonderfully refreshing for the both of us and I realized that this is going to be good. I was surrounded by the youth group, who always make me smile. I love the boys – they’re so crazy (a bit scary for lack of concern) and fun.

Prayer time Pastor

I watched Sammy jump right in…on the trampoline, in the volleyball game, in the pool and in prayer time. He kept right up because he wanted to. He didn’t waver or linger around anywhere…

Praying together

In ways, this kid is much like me…in other’s he is much more πŸ™‚ – I suppose both are a part of what makes me proud of him. I know that I have strength in area’s that others struggle with but I also know that I struggle in area’s that others don’t. This child of mine just impresses me all of the time! The compassionate heart that he has and the bond that we share are priceless!

Belly flop

Okay….before I tear up too much, I need to finish.

When he decided to get into the pool…he went straight for the diving board. Watching some of the older kids flip off and into the water, he observed for only a minute and then tried it himself. It was that easy….that’s where he tends to be like mom. All of my children tend to have the ability to self teach. My middle one doesn’t think too much first, he scares me – that’s where he is like his daddy :).

Happy pool boy

I grew up with a pool such as this, right next door to me. My friend and I would swim ALL summer long in her pool and we mastered flips, dives…you name it. I don’t care if we couldn’t have won the big contests for flips – I was happy with myself. I LOVED that pool.

So, without further note….I shall present my oldest child mastering his own flip into the water:

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations.
I may not reach them, but I can look up
and see the beauty, believe in them,
and try to follow where they lead.

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.

Just a little piece of Vermont…

This is a tiny little map of our tiny little state…

This is a tiny bag of beef jerky, made in our tiny little state.
A bag of beef jerky that Sammy was eating some from yesterday,
while on our way to go shopping.

This is a piece of beef jerky that Sammy found in that bag.

Oh, it’s gone now…into the digestive system of a tiny little belly πŸ™‚

Just in case you didn’t get it…the piece of jerky is the same shape as the state in which it was made πŸ™‚ – pretty cool, huh?

My Rainbow is Strongly Shaded…

Was I ever surprised to see that Scriptor’s colors are not the same as my own!! I did this last week and have had it secretly (well not really) placed at my sidebar, until right now. When I saw that GB and Scriptor had both taken the test, as well as Cynthia…wow. I first found it on The Pink Birdhouse blog (who seems to share my color, along with GB’s and Scriptor’s). Yes, she is a violet, yellow and white variation. Isn’t that something??

Your rainbow is strongly shaded:
Yellow and White

What this says about you:

You are a joyful person. You appreciate quiet moments. You’re good at getting people to like you. People depend on you to make them feel secure.
